The Kent Men’s A team recorded their biggest win of the season when they beat Hampshire 9-3 in front of a large vibrant crowd at the Six-In-One club in Tonbridge on Sunday.
Kent included two finalists from the 2012 World BDO championship in Clive Barden and Steve Douglas and both recorded excellent wins.
The man-of-the-match was Gillingham’s Douglas, who hit two maximum 180s, 13 tons and had a 27.16 per dart average in his 4-3 leg win over Kevin Ede.
The other Kent ‘A’ winners were Steve Stacey (Tonbridge), Josh and Nigel Payne, Pat Scurfield, Barrie Knight, Paul Dawkins and Terry Dunford.
Kent Captain Steve Collins says the county is drawing a lot of its strength from the west of the county.
“West Kent darts is particularly strong at the moment,“ he said.
“This was no better demonstrated than at the recent Kent championships where all four men’s and ladies competition winners were from the Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells area.
“We also have some exciting young players coming through like Josh Payne and Ben Songhurst.”
Despite the A team’s success Kent lost 17-19 overall. The Mens’ B team drew their match 6-6, but there was defeat for both Ladies teams, the A team losing 4-2 and the B team suffering a 6-0 reverse.
