Despite a valiant effort Darent Valley were pipped by a single point for the seventh and final place in Division One of the Tonbridge & Tunbridge Wells Table Tennis League for the second half of the season.
The race to avoid the drop was won by Teen & 20 A, who crucially picked up more points in the final two weeks, while well-timed reinforcements by T & 20 B and Otford B saw both teams avoid the dogfight.
At the other end of the table, Leigh A finished the year on top from Leigh B, with last season’s champions, Otford A, in third place.
An indication of how competitive the new Division One will be, Otford A had a real battle to beat Byng Hall. The latter fielded the trio of Jurate Brazaityte, Jasmin Ould - ranked number 13 in the girls’ section - and Mark Baker against a full strength Otford team of Tyron Stalberg, Nick Larmer and Steve Johnson, who eventually won 7-3.
